The song, Bhaag DK Bose from Delhi Belly is interesting not for its lyrical value but simply for the pun (and fun) it is. DK Bose can be a common Bengali name, but Bose DK can sound like a bad Hindi slang 'Bhosdi Ke' and the lyricist Amitabh Bhattacharya has used this college pun quite interestingly in the song. Also, Aandhi Aayi is common used with the slang and hence it's seen here too.
Daddy mujhse bola, Tu galti hai meri
Tujhpe Zindgani guilty hai meri
Saabun ki Shakal mein, beta tu toh nikla keval jhaag, jhaag jhaag...
Bhaag bhaag...
Bhaag bhaag...
Daddy said to me, "You're my mistake"
My life is guilty of (having) you,
In the name of soap, you turned out to be just foam,
run run...
run run...
Oh by god lag gayi
Kya se kya hua
Dekha toh katora
Jhaanka toh kuaan
Piddi jaissa choohaa
Dum pakda toh nikla kala naag
Naag naag naag,
Bhaag...
Bhaag bhaag DK bose, DK bose, D K bose
bhaag bhaag DK "Bose dk" bhaag..
Oh by god, I was damned,
became what from what I was (so bad from so good)
looked like a bowl,
when peeked into, a well..
A tiny little mouse,
when caught the tail, turned out to be a black snake,
snake snake...
run run, DK Bose DK Bose DK Bose
run run DK Bose DK run..
Aandhi aayi aandhi aayi aandhi aayi..
Bhaag bhaag DK bose, D K bose, D K bose
Bhaag bhaag DK Bose DK bose
Aandhi Aayi hai...
storm's come storm's come storm's come
run run, DK Bose DK Bose DK Bose
run run DK Bose DK run..
Storm has come..
Hum toh hai kabootar, Do pahiye ka ek scooter Zindagi
Jo Dhakelo toh Chale
Arre kismat ki hai kadki, Roti Kapda aur Ladki teeno hi
Paapad belo toh miley..
Yeh bheja garden hai, aur tension maali hai.. yeah..
Mann ka taanpoora, frustration me chhede ek hi Raag.. Raag Raag..
Bhaag.....
We're pigeons, life's a scooter with two wheels,
if you push, it moves (forward),
our luck is bad, food, cloth and girl all three (basic needs)
are achieved only when we work very hard
this mind is garden, and tension is the gardener,
the tanpoora (musical instrument) of heart, plays just one raaga in frustration,
run run....
Bhaag bhaag DK bose, DK bose, D K bose
bhaag bhaag DK Bose DK bhaag..
Hey Aandhi Aayi Hai Aandhi Aayi Hai
Aandhi Aayi Hai...

ReplyDeleteHm... after all the 'fret' that had been made about the song's lyrics I'm a bit... hm...
ReplyDeleteDon't get me wrong, I love the song, but I had 'hoped'(?) the lyrics would be a bit more on the 'spicy' side...
Anyways, thanks for the translation :-)
is it just me with a perv mind or do all the lyrics of the song have a double meaning.. or rather just 1 very controversial meaning??
ReplyDeleteandhi aayi hai means storm has come not darkness has come
ReplyDeleteYou missed on a stanza completely before Hum to hain kabootar it goes something like this ....
ReplyDeletesne kisko loota
kiska maatha kaise phoota
kya pataa…
bhaiya we don’t have a clue…
itna hi pata hai
aage daude to bhalaa hai
peechhe to…
ek rakshas phaade mooh…
ik aandhi, aayi, hai…
sandesha laayi hai….
PS : Great work with the translation thugh :)
@ Heiko
ReplyDeletePal if you need some suggestions with songs which have lyrics on spicy side , listen to 'Sutta Na Mila' by Zeist ..... :)
a hit song in a hit movie!thank u 4 the meaning b'coz i was wondering what it was.........
ReplyDeleteanyways Imran is my favourite actor...
it was a slang during college days; "bhaag bhosdi aandhi aaya"..... never thought that it will turn out in a song like this. thumps up for the lyricist.
ReplyDelete@ vellapanty
ReplyDeletewhat does that slang mean "bhaag bhosdi aandhy aaya"
?
@Haiko
ReplyDelete"LAG GAYI" - length of "KATORA" turned out to be -length of "KUAAN" - or "KUAAN" MEIN chota "CHOOHA" turned into "KALA NAAG"...
still not enough spicy - then u should consult a sexologist.
andhi aayi said again and again sounds like RANDI AAYI BHAG BOSADIKE :D
ReplyDeleteA bit wrong for a straight Christian woman to use it as a ringtone, then... Glad I checked the meaning. Such a catchy tune. Naughty, naughty Aamir!

ReplyDeleteBollyMeaning Is Really Doing A Great Job...Love This Site A Lot..!! Thanks A Ton To BollyMeaning...
ReplyDeletePretty nice translation! I would just make a few changes:
ReplyDelete"In the name of soap..." is rather, "In soap's image, you turned out (to be) just lather"
(i.e. the son failed to turn out in his father's image)
"lag gayi" here means not so much "I was damned," but "I got screwed"
In the last verse,
"Life's a two-wheeled scooter that goes (only) if shoved"
And the bridge verse, which (as another commenter noted) is missing from your translation above, means:
Who robbed whom?
Whose forehead split how?
Who knows...
Brother, we don't have a clue
We just know this much:
Run forward then there will be good;
Behind,
A demon will rip (our) faces...
A storm has come,
And brought a message:
Run, run! (etc.)
--Rudidudi (a Bombay native)
Awesome sOng love it!!!♥♥♥
ReplyDeleteBhaag Bhosdi ke aandhi aayee hai ..... has two connotations to it:
ReplyDeletea) run you bloody country bumpkin there's a damned storm on your tails
b) and more prone to double meanings literally run you pussy there's a storm coming your way
tch tch.. brilliant lyrics though
other notes:
Saabun Ki Shakal mein, beta tu to nikla kewal jhaag...
I'd looked for Soap and Detergent and you've turned out to be a bagful of lather alone, my son!
Hum toh hai kabootar, Do pahiye ka ek scooter Zindagi
Jo Dhakelo toh Chale
Arre kismat ki hai kadki, Roti Kapda aur Ladki teeno hi
Paapad belo toh miley..
Yeh bheja garden hai, aur tension maali hai.. yeah..
Mann ka taanpoora, frustration me chhede ek hi Raag..
We're jsut pigeons whereas life is a scooter that works only when pushed
we're running thin on luck, food, clothes and women that needs us to work are asses off
this head of hair's a garden, and tension is the gardener
the Lyre of my brain just plays the notes of frustration
