The poetry, given here, is NOT written by Gulzar Sir. This apparently is a work of Aditya Chopra, who earlier wrote Qaidi Number 786 for Yash Chopra's last film Veer Zaara and is the story and dialog writer for Jab Tak Hai Jaan.
teri aankhon ki namkeen mastiyaan
teri hansi ki beparwaah gustakhiyaan
teri zulfon ki lehrati angdaiyaan
nahi bhoolunga main
jab tak hai jaan, jab tak hai jaan
the naughty fun in your eyes,
the carefree forwardness of your eyes,
the wavey stretching of your hair,
I'll not forget, as long as I live..
tera haath se haath chhodna
tera saayon se rukh modna
tera palat ke phir na dekhna
nahin maaf karunga main,
jab tak hai jaan, jab tak hai jaan..
your leaving hand from hands,
your turning away from the shadows (of mine),
your not turning back to see,
I'll not forgive,
as long as I live.
as long as I live..
baarishon mein bedhadak tere naachne se
baat baat pe bewajah tere roothne se,
chhoti chhoti teri bachkani badmashiyon se,
mohabbat karunga main
Jab tak hai jaan, jab tak hai jaan..
your dancing freely in rains,
your getting angry on small things without reason,
your small, childish mischieves,
I'll love them all,
As long as I live, As long as I live..
Tere jhoothe kasme vaadon se,
tere jalte sulagte khwabon se,
teri beraham duaon se,
nafrat karunga main,
Jab tak hai jaan, jab tak hai jaan..
Your false promises,
your burning dreams,
your heartless wishes,
I'll hate them all,
As long as I live, As long as I live..

This poetry is incomparable... Hats off, aditya chopra....
ReplyDeleteDude, how do you say its "NOT written by Gulzar" when SRK himself suggested(on his twiter page) that its penned by Gulzar saab??
ReplyDelete@Dhruva
ReplyDeleteI think you're confusing it with Challa, which IS written by Gulzar saab. Teri aankhon ki namkeen mastiyaan, with all due respect to Aditya Chopra, doesn't sound like Gulzar standard from the very first line. Still, we believed it COULD BE him, until we got a confirmation from Pavan Jha Sir of BBC, who is close to Gulzar saab.
Hope your confusion is cleared. We can guarantee it's NOT Gulzar even if there is any little doubt about Aditya. :)
Poem is so good and instantly i fell in love with it, the translation in English is very badly done. The essence of poem in English translation is LOST!!!
ReplyDeleteThis poem indeed is written by Aditya Chopra. One can feel the similarities between the qaidi no 786 dialogue and this poem. Gulzar saab's poetry more often than not will have shades of Urdu in it.
ReplyDeletethe poem is marvellous....it turns magical as sounded by SRK ....i love it ...jab thak he jaan...jab thak he jaan
ReplyDeleteWrittn n voice of srk is making these lines something else
ReplyDeleteohhhw dis is outstanding....i luv it not bcuz adi's written it, but bcuz i totally believe in love n dat love comes to those who believ in it...let me be vry frank here...be it Adi or de gr8 MR.Gulzar saab i dun care a damn..der is art, magic whts more distinguished is that der is Romance inevitably...i genuinely loved it wid all my heart n goodness...!!! Thanks & regards,
ReplyDeleteTanrukh Khan

And Gulzar!! whoever had that doubt... this is nowhere close to Gulzar standards... NOWHERE!!
I don't no why u guys r complaining and bragging which is better .... I say ....

ReplyDeleteit's a simple but heart-touching poem.....it's simply beautiful
ReplyDelete....jst luv it.
This is poem is really good, I believe that a poem is only good, if someone with a really good voice is saying it, the lyrics are great and if anyone could have said it better than the King Khan, is the Mr Bachan.
ReplyDeletereally good piece of information, I had come to know about your site from my friend shubodh, kolkatta,i have read atleast nine posts of yours by now, and let me tell you, your site gives the best and the most interesting information. This is just the kind of information that i had been looking for, i'm already your rss reader now and i would regularly watch out for the new posts, once again hats off to you! Thanks a lot once again, Regards, marathi kavita
ReplyDeleteI had found flaws in it when first heard it. There are points where the themes are jointed forcefully and they dont connect well. the problem was with flow. still thinking that its written by the greatest Gulzar, i adapted to it. But now I know why i was right to criticize its standards. its not Gulzar sir, its aditya, i rich producer who can fulfill all his interests.
ReplyDelete@Lalit
ReplyDeleteSuch people are the reasons I make the effort to write. This is what feeds me. Thanks a lot. Please let me know of anything you'd like to see here and think would fit. Thanks again.
