Movie: Baar Baar Dekho
Music: Jasleen Royal
Lyrics: Aditya Sharma
Singers: Jasleen Royal, Harshdeep Kaur, Siddharth Mahadevan
Label: Zee Music Company
Another song from Baar Baar Dekho that sounds like any other wedding song (actually a little more sober and probably longer lasting) but has some nuances to it. The song picks up a couple of typical Punjabi wedding things and uses them quite cleverly. I don't remember aalu bade karaare being used in mainstream Bollywood yet, though Latte di chaadar was well used in Queen, and this one is a bit on similar lines. Other than that one thing I kind of loved was the talk about the angry jijja and fuffaD, which is something that is kind of going from Indian weddings now, but used to be an integral part of them until even a decade or so ago. So interesting to see a song that talks about Tweets, DJ, and at the same time things we haven't entirely forgotten yet. Enjoy this one. :)
munDa thoDa.. offbeat hai
par kuDiyaan de naal.. bohot sweet hai
the boy is a little offbeat,
but he's very sweet with girls.
Dhongi sa ye baDa DheeTh hai
viral ho gaya ye tweet
he's a fraud, and very insolent,
this tweet has become viral.
par fool vool karne mein cool
tu baDi tez kaTaari hai
shagan teri ki, lagan teri ki
humne kardi taiyari hai
but you are a sharp knife,
cool in making fool.
we have done all the preparations for
your lagan and your shagan..
[lagan and shagan (equivalent to Hindi shagun) are the commonly held pre-wedding functions in Northern India.]
nachde ne saare
ral-mil ke
aaj hil-Dul ke
le saare ke saare nazaare..
everyone dances today, mixing up,
moving and swaying,
taking in all the beautiful sceneries.
khasma nu khaane!
haDippa… haDippa…
[khasma nu khaane is actually a swear phrase, literally meaning 'to eat your husband', but is used in a light mood, as a sign of casualness here.]
aalu baDe karaare
karam naal aalu baDe karaare
chaDh chaDh ke chaubaare
karam naal sweetu aaja maare
potatoes are very crispy,
yeah, with His grace, potatoes are very crispy,
come up on the platform,
and have fun, sweetu...
[Aalu bade karaare is an old punjabi 'boli' which is sung in weddings with the names of the bride and groom inserted in it. The literal meaning of aalu bade karaare is that 'potatoes are crispy,' but then it's not necessarily limited to one meaning, if you are getting what I mean here. :) ]
chak de!
Bring the house down!
munDe puh-lenty mere layi ho gaye senti
o tere layi ho gaye senti
tere layi ho gaye senti
plenty of guys have become attached to me.
yeah they have become attached to you,
sentimental for you..
tere liye main set hoon
is baat ki guarantee
but I'm for you only,
this is guaranteed.
par fool vool karne mein cool
tu baDi tez kaTaari hai
shagan teri ki, lagan teri ki
humne kardi tayaari hai
sehra baandh, tujhe kood-faand
tujhe le jaana is baari hai
this time, I have to wear a sehra
and jumping fences of whatever way, take you away.
[Sehra is a veil, often made of flowers, for grooms to wear during wedding, though its popularity is going down.]
nachde ne saare ral-mil ke
aaj hil-Dul ke
laye saare ke saare nazaare
zor-zor se shor-wor kar
DJ gaane bajaane aa
ruThde ruThde jija fuffaD
humne saare manaane haan
making loud noises,
come, O DJ, play songs.
we'll placate
all the angry relatives.
par fool wool karne mein cool
tu baDi tez kaTaari hai
shagan teri ki
lagan teri ki
humne kardi taiyaari hai
nachde ne saare..
nachde ne saare..
nachde ne saare ral-mil ke
aaj hil-Dul ke
le saare ke saare nazaare
nachde ne saare..
nachde ne saare..
khasma nu khaane!
love this song...
